The Celestial Tug
The Moon and Sun don't just move the oceans — they lift the solid crust by up to ~30 cm twice a day (solid-earth tides). When that tidal stress peaks, near new and full moons (syzygy) and at perigee (close Moon), the extra pull can unstick faults already near breaking. It's a nudge, not a cause — but the correlation is measurable.
Planetary Alignment
When several planets cluster along one side of the Sun, their combined gravitational and magnetic configuration changes slightly. Mainstream seismology finds no robust quake link, but the alignment does modulate the solar wind and the shape of the heliospheric current sheet — which is what the Geo-Magnetic index tracks here.
Magnetic Field & Radiation
Solar flares and coronal holes stream charged particles at Earth. Our magnetic field funnels them to the poles, driving geomagnetic storms that can fry grids, skew compasses, and spike radiation at altitude. The 27-day solar rotation and planetary geometry both shape this rhythm.
Ring of Fire & Chain Reactions
The Pacific Ring of Fire holds ~75% of the world's volcanoes and ~90% of its quakes. One plate-boundary rupture redistributes stress to its neighbors — so a big quake off Japan can raise strain on the Cascadia subduction zone. Watch the time series for clustered spikes.
