Zombie Outbreak: Field Manual (Contingency)
A hypothetical-but-sane preparedness manual for societal collapse scenarios.
Note: the U.S. CDC published a zombie-preparedness guide as a teachable analog for real pandemics. Here is a practical version.
1. BUG-OUT BAG (always ready): 3 days of water (1 gal/person/day), non-perishable food, first-aid kit, medications, flashlight, radio, batteries, multi-tool, map, cash, copies of IDs.
2. SECURE YOUR BASE: reinforce doors, board ground-floor windows, establish a single defensible entry. Sleep in shifts — at least one watcher.
3. MOVE QUIETLY: travel in small groups. Stay off main roads. Move at dawn/dusk. Light and noise draw attention.
4. AVOID BITES: long sleeves, thick clothing, gloves. Any bite wound = quarantine the person for 48 hours and watch for symptoms.
5. WATER & FOOD: only what you can purify or seal. Forage at night, cook at dawn. Never eat unprocessed meat.
6. RENDER A THREAT INERT: aim for the central nervous system if forced to engage; destruction of the brainstem is the only reliable method in the model scenario. Fleeing beats fighting — always.
7. REUNION PLAN: agree on a rally point 2+ miles from home and an out-of-area contact for messages if local lines go down.
