Understanding the Times

The Birth Pains of His Coming

The earthquakes, volcanoes, tornadoes, hurricanes, famines, and wars you see increasing on this very app are not random. The Lord Jesus Christ Himself prophesied them nearly two thousand years ago as the "beginning of sorrows" — the birth pains that signal His return. This is not given to make you afraid. It is given so you would understand what is going on, turn your heart to Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior, and be ready.

What the Bible Is Telling Us

A woman in labor feels the pains grow closer and stronger as the moment of birth draws near. In the same way, Jesus said the disasters of this world would grow more frequent and more severe as His return draws near. One earthquake is not the end — but earthquakes in divers places, wars, famines, pestilences, and signs in the heavens together are the birth pains. When you see these things begin to come to pass, He said, "look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh."

The four Gospels — Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John — all record this promise. Read them below, straight from the King James Bible, and let the Holy Spirit speak to your heart.

Matthew 24 — The Olivet Discourse

“And ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet. For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places.”

— Matthew 24:6–7 (KJV)

“All these are the beginning of sorrows.”

— Matthew 24:8 (KJV)

“And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many.”

— Matthew 24:11 (KJV)

“But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved. And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come.”

— Matthew 24:13–14 (KJV)

“And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.”

— Matthew 24:30 (KJV)

“Watch therefore: for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come.”

— Matthew 24:42 (KJV)

“Therefore be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh.”

— Matthew 24:44 (KJV)

Mark 13 — The Parallel Account

“For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be earthquakes in divers places, and there shall be famines and troubles: these are the beginnings of sorrows.”

— Mark 13:8 (KJV)

“And ye shall be hated of all men for my name's sake: but he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved.”

— Mark 13:13 (KJV)

“So ye in like manner, when ye shall see these things come to pass, know that it is nigh, even at the doors.”

— Mark 13:29 (KJV)

“Watch ye therefore: for ye know not when the master of the house cometh... Lest coming suddenly he find you sleeping. And what I say unto you I say unto all, Watch.”

— Mark 13:35–37 (KJV)

Luke 21 — Signs & Redemption Drawing Nigh

“Nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: And great earthquakes shall be in divers places, and famines, and pestilences; and fearful sights and great signs shall there be from heaven.”

— Luke 21:10–11 (KJV)

“And there shall be signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars; and upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity; the sea and the waves roaring; Men's hearts failing them for fear, and for looking after those things which are coming on the earth.”

— Luke 21:25–26 (KJV)

“And then shall they see the Son of man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. And when these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh.”

— Luke 21:27–28 (KJV)

“So likewise ye, when ye see these things come to pass, know ye that the kingdom of God is nigh at hand.”

— Luke 21:31 (KJV)

“Watch ye therefore, and pray always, that ye may be accounted worthy to escape all these things that shall come to pass, and to stand before the Son of man.”

— Luke 21:36 (KJV)

John — Peace in the World's Trouble & His Promise to Return

“Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father's house are many mansions... I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.”

— John 14:1–3 (KJV)

“These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.”

— John 16:33 (KJV)

Supporting Witness from the Epistles

“For we know that the whole creation groaneth and travaileth in pain together until now.”

— Romans 8:22 (KJV)

“For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first.”

— 1 Thessalonians 4:16 (KJV)

What Must I Do to Be Ready?

Jesus said, "Watch therefore... be ye also ready." To be ready is to be found in Christ. Believe that Jesus is the Son of God, that He died for your sins and rose again on the third day, and confess Him as your Lord and Savior. He said, "I will come again, and receive you unto myself." If you have never put your trust in Him, do it today — for in such an hour as you think not, the Son of man cometh.

"For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved." — Romans 10:13, KJV

Breathe — Anchor Your Body, Steady Your Heart

When panic rises, your breath is the anchor God gave your body. Slow your breathing until your heart settles. There is no rush. You are safe in this moment.

  1. 1

Breathe in slowly through your nose

4 seconds — let your belly fill.

  2. 2

    Hold it gently

4 seconds — no strain, just hold.

  3. 3

Breathe out slowly through your mouth

6 seconds — let everything go.

  4. 4

Say quietly: "The Lord is my shepherd."

Repeat 4 times. Feel your shoulders drop.

"Be still, and know that I am God." — Psalm 46:10, KJV
